Hedonism is fine if all you're worried about is right now. As humans we generally like have the capablily to think about more than the next 5 minutes. Just doing what feels good now, isn't much of a plan. You wind up trading what you really want for what you want right now.

why shouldn't people devote their lives to pleasure? (usually using the senses)

Because nothing would get done and the world would crumble. If everone was busy pleasing him/herself, then we would not long to please ourselfs once after something we have achieved. There would be no more purpose in a reward or punishment so society would colapse. Therefore: for cats ok, for humans, not so much.

I love the way my cats think and I do try to be more like them, especially
the ability they have to be totally quiet and still, doing nothing and happy
about it. I think humans run around in circles finding meaning in just
being busy. Let's all try to be a little more like cats, but, don't take it too
far...we still have to be able to take care of ourselves and our cats.

You may not have like the wording of your previous question, but I liked the wording of my previous answer, so I'll give it again. If everyone was only concerened about maximizing his own pleasures, how would the human race survive?
