? These are called verbal threats and it is meant to drive you trembling with fear.
The theory is that you will imagine the consequences enough to stop you from doing something.
It works on children mostly.
Some threats of bodily harm is considered a criminal offense, and you can report them to the police.

I don't know how tough it is, but my ex abusive husband and his current wife have told me every year for the past nine years that they're going to sue me for slander.....I'm still waiting for it! They're not too smart! They don't seem to understand it's not slander when it's the the truth, and especially when you can back it up!!! He's just mad he can no longer intimidate me!

Not really. They usually fall down like a sack of laundry. It's more of a minor nuisance and a waste of my time and energy.
