usually if there is colored phlegm involved, there is an infection present and antibiotics are needed to treat it.

you can try taking mucinex-which is an over the counter medication which helps loosen up chest congestion so you can cough it up. you can also try Robutessin DM-it's also designed to help loosen congestion. you should also use a warm mist humidifier in your room at nite while you sleep-this will help keep the air from drying out and also help to loosen up congestion.

dirty air can cause infections b/c of allergens in the air and also germs.

if you have the phlegm for longer than 14 days, it gets worse or darkens in color, or you develop problems breathing-like it or not, it would be best to see your dr

You need an expectorant, a cough medicine designed to break up phlegm. The yellow color could be an indication that there is some type of infection or simply that you're not getting enough fluids. Maybe not serious, but there is always a possibility. You should increase your fliud intake. Drink a lot of fluids, especially clear fluids like apple juice and water; this will aid in moving the phlegm from your system. But get an expectorant, find one that is indicated for your particular symptoms. At 3 days, I wouldn't be too concerned, but if your symptons continue for more than a week, see your doctor.

Sounds like you're getting an infection. If you can't go to the GP and get some antibiotics you can try several things

Take elderberry, vitamin c, echineachea, and zinc.. all immune boostes that may help

For the cough try a mixture of lime or lemon juice with honey... if you want to do it by the spoonfull you can take a soup spoon of honey and add 10 drops of the juice.

Also try taking steamy showers or baths to help loosen up your congestion.

i'm all for home and alternative remedies, but even i know when to throw in the towel and get some antibodies in my system! even if it was an environmental response, you really need to get the phelgm out before it makes you sicker! maybe Mucinex would help-you can buy it at a drug store for around $16-$20. it makes coughs more productive. hope u feel better!

GO to the doctor..now.

You could have bronchitis, pneumonia, or a sinus infection.
Get some good meds.

You could try mucinex with lots of water, but you should be seen by a GP.
