while that is true, Implementation might be the market need right now, Do not belittle the requirements for the same. And you still could choose to demostrate your abilities on a more level playing field where technical skill and peer review is the only judgement used. (Im Talking about Open Source, GNU/Linux) Getting noticed in these arenas could lead to the right places .

Serious programming is all around you. You're partly right, but I don't think you're looking at the whole picture - just the parts of the picture that you've seen before.
