I'd say first teachers are accountable for students/youth, second they are accountable for themselves and their own actions. Next i would say the community. They are also accountable for other teachers and their actions. being accountable for others is an underlying detail of being a teacher that many don't understand or appreciate.

THE WORLD!!! The better question would be who aren't teachers accountable to? If there is a problem that happens in school, teachers are the 1st target, then the principal, then the schoolboard, then the courts. An even better question, who are parents accountable to?!?

It depends who is asking the question. Most teachers/schools say the students. Depending on the grade level that means the parents, who are tax payers, who pay the salaries. Others will say the world, be/c we send these kids out there with the knowledge we put in them.

The voters vote in the board of ed who hire administration such as the superintendent. It is tax money that pays for our public schools, but in this unfortunate time of school financial scandels, some communities have really lost trust in their boards of ed. and administration.

In the US, the Superintendant of schools is accountable to voters. He or she is elected. Then, he or she has the power to hire and fire those who work in the schools. In private schools, it's money. If they are successful, they get students.
