In China we have many, and one of the most loved is the story of A-Mah Rock. A long time ago, there was a young couple living along the coast, and each day the husband went out to earn what little he could, then he would return in the evening. His wife waited patiently on the cliff over looking the sea to watch for his boat. One day a fierce storm brew up and the fisherman was drowned. His wife waited and waited but he never returned. The gods took pity on the poor lady and changed her to stone so she could continue her vigil even to today. If You go to Hong Kong, you can see a massive rock that does look like a woman carrying her baby on her back. Even today fishermen pay tribute to A-Mah as they believe she is sort of a guardian. Then we have the story of the Monkey King being imprisoned by the Jade Emperor for 500 years for stealing the peaches of immortality, and the there is the lady of the moon and the rabbit, and the nine suns, and the the story about Dragon Boat Festival....just too many.

meep! theres a whole dictionary of Sea Tales online.
but lemee try and remember a few.
Sea serpant one is a good story. Mermaids are hot chicks with flipper tails. There are waves that are in the southerlies that will swallow a ship and its crew whole, it has happened before, and will happen again.
There is a ghost ship that sails in the horse lattitudes, her crew killed the captain and now they are all stuck aboard with no direction.
