Cause dont forget in 2004 he allowed the former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson into Britain after he issued instructions to immigration officers not to stop the fighter when he arrives at Heathrow after being conviced of raping a beauty queen in 1992. He served three years of a six-year prison sentence and has been jailed again for assaulting two motorists aswell.

Under immigration rules, anyone convicted of an offence that would carry a 12-month prison term if committed in Britain is "normally" refused entry. Then of cause we have the lastest in which he asks muslim women not to wear veils which cover their face. Is this guy deaf does he need to lipread?

I think that right. You do have a fair point. I think that he needs to shape up and take a good look at himself, before attempting to assist in the running of GB

People need to see the expressions of each other during a conversation its called communication it is possible to know if an individual is sincere or not, this cannot be done with a covered face. If muslims do not like our culture then they should not live here. After all if any Briton lives in a Muslim country they would be expected to respect the local customs or are we not all equal? As for the Tyson thing no idea what he was thinking about. He should not have been let in. Jack Straw will not make these decisions on his own.

If someone made an appointment to see me in my office I would not expect them to hid under a pile of burlap while they are talking to me. I'd want to see their face, their expression. The eyes tell a lot when you are speaking with someone, and there is no reason why these women should be hiding under a sheet. If they do not want to see, him, then they simply should not make an appointment. How would they like it if when they got there he was covered up in a blanket too? Do you see how ludicrous this is? I don't think he has a problem with women; he has a problem whith not actually being to look someone in the eyes while he is speaking to them. Then you go on about British immigration which has nothing to do with this issue. That is a separate subject.

Sounds as if there is a double standard there. Michael Tyson was convicted of rape, a class A felony in the State of Indiana where he served his time. He shouldn't be able to leave the Country according the the American passport rules. If your a felon you can't get a passport anyway, or leave the Country. If he is in Britain it's a crime in America as well.

Donna M, Ollie and AEN, I completely agree with you. Jack Straw has said nothing wrong. I think the only problem we have in this country is political correctness. Good for him for making a stand. This is a democracy and anyone who is offended by his comments should not be here. If any female goes to a country where women are veiled, they are expected to cover up, despite their religion, so what's the difference in Jack Straw's comments? Absolutely nothing

Political Correctness gone overboard again!
I, for one, am heartily sick of continual 'Muslim outrage'.
At least in Britain and other places, except some very ISLAMIC countries, women have a RIGHT to wear the veil or NOT.
When in Rome, ........................
What has Mike Tyson to do with this 'veil' issue?

Dont the women have a free right ?
Am sure they can wear and dress, how they like
Who are government ministers to tell us ?
I guess this Blair Govt is obsessed with dictatorship and wants to rule us directly to stone age.
The sooner the whole gang goes, the better

Or is it a case of abnormality ?
Those women wearing a veil may see others as abnormal, just as J Straw sees them as.

I forgot we do have human rights in the end

And if it maybe the case, that the Quran orders them, then who are we to intervene in a divine message ?

He has not got a problem, he voiced an opinion & I for one feel uncomfortable seeing them with there faces covered.Im not a racist.I cannot accept them covering up, look at Afganistan the Taliban forced the women to cover up or face dire consequences.Look what the Taliban stand for?

I think people who jump to conclusions without actually listening to what was said are the people who have problems.

Jack Straw voiced an opinion that a lot of people share - he's entitled to, this is still a free country.
