Religion is arguably the biggest divider of the world now. The recent documentary "Jesus Camp" profile some religious fanatics brainwashing children. Oh, and the camp was held in (get this) Devils Lake. They are also against Harry Potter. :)

Religion is not an evil. It was devised as a quest for meaning.

The political application of religion for personal gain and private agenda is evil.

Every religion has it's fanatics. Hell, I grew up in one of the worst fanatical religions, nuttier than a snickers bar if ya catch m'drift.

But, I wouldn't say it's evil, because they always had the best of intentions and as crazy as some fanatical Christians may be, Christian mission work is truly something else. It's quite selfless and they only want to spread the word of God. They're not out there with rocket launchers and M16 rifles threatening people to convert to Christianity.

But Christianity is mocked and ridiculed more today than ever before. There was a time when the church was a major institution in North America, it was respected and you didn't dare speak out against it, but today it's a punchline.

But, Catholic Bishops shipping child molesting priests from parish to parish knowing full well what's going on...that's pretty damn evil...

Religion and great literary fiction such as Harry Potter (my love!) should not interfere. I am a Catholic, and I find nothing wrong with books like HP, and I think the only ones that do are tight-***, brainwashed, hypocritical, ignorant pigs! I mean, they even admit to not reading the books.

Christians and other religions should believe in their religion, and leave everyone else alone to what they want to do. Jeez.

Religion has always been evil, its not something recent. There is nothing right about brainwashing from the cradle. Religion should be avoided until such time a child can make up its own mind. Not thrust down our throats as soon as we can walk.

Some religion has always been toxic.
But now we have suicide bombers with nukes, it's much more so.
Those kids at Jesus Camp will grow up and decide for themselves. It's not really possible for parents to live their children's lives, people have this remarkable ability to think things out for themselves.
I love Harry Potter and I'm an Evangelical Christian!

Dangerous is the word I'd use. Like fire and explosives. They can be useful and helpful or they can burn or kill you.

But I don't see them being anywhere near as dangerous as say Communism and Socialism. They killed 100 million last century.

Anytime you put utopia, paradise, or heaven on the table people are willing to pay a high price.

Religion is not an evil thing

Its what gives meaning to life. A man who doesn't know the reason for his existence is as good as not being alive in the first place.

Yes - some Religions are Evil.
I admire the Buddhists - as far as I know they are not violent.
The Religions that want to convert others to their beliefs are Evil.
