The Rh factor is relate to blood types and a type of antigen that is found in the blood (Rhesus) , you fall into two categories Rh+ and Rh- the majority fall into the Rh+ group. It is not important in choosing a partner at all. The knowledge of your Rh factor comes into play when starting a family, if the female is Rh- and the male is Rh+ then the child will be Rh+ and at risk of being mistaken as a foreign object, the female immune system attack the child if left untreated. Treatment comes in the form of Rh immunoglobin.

Rh factor is the +/- sign that is put along with your blood group. Like A+, B-, AB-, so on...
It indicates whether your blood has a particular set of antigens in it. If it has them, then you are Rh Positive. So your blood group will have a + sign against it. If you don't, then you'll have a - sign against it.
When a Rh+ blood comes into contact with Rh- blood, the Rh- blood develops antigens to kill the Rh+ blood. So when a Rh- mother has a Rh+ baby, and the baby's blood comes into contact with the mother's blood, this will lead the mother's blood to develop the antibodies, and may even kill the baby..

The Rh factor is a blood protein first isolated in the rhesus monkey (for which it is named). If you are Rh + and your wife is Rh - you stand a chance of producing a child that is Rh +. While this is not bad in itself, it is bad if the mother is Rh -. Her body will produce antibodies to fight the Rh + baby as if it is an infection. This is a life-threatening issue for the baby. If it is discovered in time there is medical treatment that can save the baby.
