My husband works on an oil rig and he has 2 weeks worth of drilling oil smell in is cloths....(smells like diesel a little)
I hang his clothes in the sun for as long as I can at least 2 days, sometimes more before I wash them....After I bring them in and wash them..They smell fresh no more oil smell.
Dry cleaning also removes all oil and gas from clothes...If you are able to take them to the cleaners
air dried laundry not only lasts longer, the sun helps to remove stains from white clothes, and the ultraviolet rays kills bacteria and other dangerous growth, including most fungi

My regimen:
For greasy or fuel-stained clothes, use three times the normal amount of liquid detergent in the hottest water available with the washer set on the smallest load that will still handle the amount of clothes.
Interrupt just before rinse, reset to large load and re-wash, again with hot water but do not interrupt.
Examine the clothes for stains and smell. If satisfied, go on to dry. If still dirty, repeat the procedure again.

Some detergents now have febreeze in them, you can try that. Also DO NOT put them in the dryer unless you are sure the smell is out, it will otherwise make it worse, and where it's diesel fuel I would be afraid to.

I don't know about diesel, but my husband gets jet fuel on his clothes. A second rinse usually gets the smell out.

Try soaking them overnight in vinegar, straight.
Use the whole bottle. Vinegar is cheap.
Under $2. Wash the jeans again as usual.
If this does not work - only solution - buy a new pair.

Hot water with extra soap and Lestoil cleanser usually works for me.
