Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is widely recognised as being the "first" music video, but bands had been making promo videos for their songs for a long time before that

Way back in the early 80's on USA on Fri and Sat nights their used to be a show called Night Flight, I remember these videos in particular with Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics (don't remember the title) and Gary Neuman did his song Cars and M did Pop Music, this predated MTV.

Beatles' movie Hard Days Night would be a first. Shows such as The Monkees and Paul Revere and the Raiders (the 60s) showcased their songs that would be videos today.

If you *Really* want to trace the origins of music videos, you should look back to the Beatles. Specifically the movie "A Hard Day's Night".
