This is a really great question, Frank. I've been thinking about this; and let me share my thoughts with you...

I think this IS and IS NOT a distraction.

Clearly it is a distraction, because the sexual manners and mores of one member of Congress aren't relevant to the price of gasoline, the economy, the war in Iraq, and national security. The reason this becomes a story is frankly because these other issues are very complicated, people don't understand all of the ramifications, and are therefore easily distracted by someone else's sex life (which is something everybody can comprehend). So in this sense, it really is a stupid distraction. It's "Tabloid Politics."

But in another, perhaps more fundamental sense, there's something more at work here. What's really happening is that we've seen that politicians care more about image than substance. The way the leadership hemmed and hawed about this for years, speaks to a certain hypocrisy in the political class that the American people should be concerned about. It's not about what what you actually do; it's about the way you are perceived. This hypocrisy pervades BOTH parties, and this affair gives us all a chance to investigate this problem and ask important questions about what this means to all of us.

Hope this answer helps.

It was a party ambush as always, around this way, democrats are so insecure in there own politics that they hold "stuff" hidden until just the right time. Republicans do it as well, they just dont need to most of the time because they are always in the majority, just watch and you'll see something new pop up, Funniest thing about it though is the democrats screwed up as always, they always john kerry themselves and are extremely un organized, there was these two anti republican books out and in top of the news, then pow, the foley situation, and that will blow over when democrats will be pulled into the fray, the one thing is that if you like watching wrestling, then youd like the politics of today...otherwise, its a bit tiresome......

It was revealed that Foley did a dishonorable thing. He followed up by doing the honorable thing -- he resigned. (Too bad Clinton didn't have as much honor!) Congress will investigate what really happened and take appropriate (I hope) action.

But the VLWM (vast left wing media) and the liberal politicians they support will not let the issue play itself out. They would rather keep this issue front and center, so they can rant and rave about it, to the exclusion of other issues, like be Iraq issue, because they have no viable alternative to any relavent issue facing this country today.

The Democrats and the News Media are working together to keep the Foley affair going day after day until election.
They think that the American people are stupid enough to fall for their charade.
They may be.
(And it covers-up the news that Rangle & Pelosi are bragging about raising taxes on working people as soon as they get in power.)

Isn't it amazing how this has been going on so long and now it is so very important. Gee what ever should we focus on.Quickly throw the bum (he already quit) out, prosecute his a*s, take down his cover-up friends ( Duh,I had no idea this was happening), and get back to the real issues. Strange how these things always spring to life at campaign time.

Nah the Iran War and Afghanistan,Terrorism , Health Care , the voluminous American budget are still there, however catching predators over the internet and keeping people safe falls under crime and policing issues. As does the lessening of Americans rights, which are still relevant, but Americans seem to be sleeping and not caring.....tmi I suppose.

Dishonest behavior from an elected offical is always a valid issue. I felt the same way when Clinton lied.

the publicity certainly has shifted some of the focus , but the cover up that the leadership of congress engaged in is certainly a valid issue.

I believe he without doubt betrayed the trust of the people that voted for him, an utter disgrace! He should be procsecuted to the full extent of the law and sued if possible by the pages.

I think it is an October surprise by the Democrats & they are playing it up. Thankfully it is losing interest & people can refocus on more important issues.
