Depends on the lie. If it was something major I needed to protect them from - like a boyfriend cheating - surely your being a better friend by telling them straight away if you knew, than dragging it on and seeing your friend getting more and more hurt.

Anyone that says no to this is a liar.
]We lie all the time
"Yes I love you in that lime green dress"
"No I don't think Bob would ever cheat on you"
"Gertrude is such a pretty name for your daughter"

Of course I would lie to protect a friend, I would do anything to stop a friend from being hurt.

if it was a criminal offence where lives were in danger i would not incriminate myself and help further his/her dangerous behaviour towards society, i would not lie. i wouldnt be able to live with myself. obviously my "friend" in that instance would need to be jailed/institutionalized.
if, its his/her job on the line, i'd lie if i knew s/he had made a stupid mistake by which they'd learnt a good lesson.
if its a small lie to "protect" their feelings from being hurt, i'd ask myself, is it better to come clean with this friend, help them over the hurdle of facing what would probably be a growing point for him or her (hurtful experiences usually are) and i'd level with her/him as to why i'm sticking to my guns with honesty.
otherwise, i really dont think lying is necessary, only if its going to serve "some" good in the bigger scheme of things, but generally, that is the purpose of honesty, not of lies.

That depends on the situation if for example her feller was cheating and I knew for sure then no I wouldn’t lie to her I would tell the what I know and let her take it from there, if it was a trivial matter yes I would as long as she didn’t get hurt.

Of course, but only about small things. I would make sure that the decision wouldn't come back to haunt me and certainly wouldn't lie about something too big, that I couldn't keep hidden.

For instance, I would say: 'that dress looks lovely' even if it was slightly too small and very unflattering. But wouldn't say: 'I'm sure your partner has been faithful, don't worry about it' if I knew they had been cheating.

I think everyone would lie about little things I keep people from being hurt

Depends - upon in what way hurt, and in what the friend has been accused of doing as to whether I'd sacrifice my principles etc for this person.

You really should supply more information. But then I suspect you're not actually looking for answers.

yes and no
i think it depends on the type of lie , there is a huge difference bet a big lie that would shock everybody to know , and a tiny lie that would`nt hurt that much to know

I don't think i would but it depends on the friend. My best friend completely respects my opinion and i do hers which is why we get on so well. If i ask her something I know she will answer honestly. However, I have got friends who would not appreciate it if i told the truth and blame me. When i say that I'm thinking of the scenario of if I saw her man cheat. I would hope my friends would tell me.

depends on the lie! if it's in your friend's long term interest, even if they are hurt initially, i'd try to tell the truth. i think it's sometimes easier to lie rather than be honest about it, but in the long term, i think the truth comes out anyway...

No because the truth comes out in the end and they would be more hurt because you have lied to them and friend should be completely honest with each other.
