Ideally, it is about helping employees with human relationships problems. Technically this is a complex field requiring training and applied scientifically and impartially. However, due to unequal power relationships in an organisation it can often degenerate into lip service addressing only the superficial problems. In large organisations this is one of the key elemeents of organisational success hence the very good remuneration package of HR managers.
