Maybe the media who build them up to idol status to sell the premier league, are over hyping them.

Lack of talent, of creativity. English players are strong physically but they can't move the ball well. Lampard, Gerrard, Cole and Rooney are good players but not outstanding creative talents. There are no Ronaldinho, Kaka, Messi, Riquelme, Pirlo or Totti in english football. The last creative player in England was Paul Gascoigne but that was some time ago. The problem with english football is that they never had a Maradona, a Pelé, a Zidane, a Cruyff. They lack the talent that brazilians, argentinians, french and dutch footballers have, and they don't have the tactical culture and the mental strengh that the germans and the italians bring to the game. So it's no wonder that England never make it past the quarter finals of the world cup.

Most of our so called stars are simply paid far to much from their clubs and don't see playing for their country as any honour.
Can't understand why mclaren played the likes of rooney when the players he used prior to this latest game were playing reasonably well and winning games.
It seems that past reputations from some players gets precedent over current winning ones. This must be sickening for the not so famous players who play well and win and then are dropped to allow some over-rated so called star to take their place simply because they have returned from a ban or injury.
When mclaren took over I thought his dropping of beckham was a brave decision, and because he felt he was not playing to his potential, but I now think it was because he did not want a player who may steal his glory or undermine his authority with his decisions on team matters.
The FA should ask mclaren why he changed a winning team.
Again I ask, why was rooney chosen to play and then substituted because he was not playing well? surely mclaren should have noticed this during the practice sessions.
I agree with you that reputations should not be a part of team selection. Give the players who feel honoured to pull on an England shirt the chance to show what they are capable of, then we may have a winning team.

England are over-hyped by their media, therefore the fans believe it. You have some good players, but they don't seem to gel as a team. All this talk of a 'golden generation' is just that - talk. They were shown for what they are in the World Cup - a 2nd rate team. You don't have the right to beat every team out there. Show a bit of humility like us Scottish fans (do you know we just beat the World Cup runners-up?!) and realise your place in World football: a team in the second tier. You ain't good enough!!

Overpaid, overpraised and overrated, great individuals but a poor team performance especially Lampard. Carrick was good and should be a key figure in England's restructure!

yeah i agree with you, but i do think Mcclaren is giving them a biy of a kick up the backside, by shaking the team up a lil bit and bringing in new players. no1 is safe just look @ Beckham he proberly assumed he would always be safe but he will now have to work really really hard to ever get bk in the team and its the same as the other players. i also believe there is 2 much hype and now they are getting cained in the papers for the display yesterday but no team is never going to have a poor game. lets hope this has woke them up a bit!

yeh agree with some of that still feel we havent got the best manager for the job ,but yeh i feel more than anything theres a whole load of negativity and pressure involved i mean every time we get to a torny it never works out and we allways get knocked out because of some contraversial decision or event ,makes you wonder wether in the back of there minds there thinking whats the point we probly had the best chance of winning the world cup with all the quality players we got and all know they didnt perform and blew it,odviously didnt help with that **** of a manager sven, they should be going out there playing for those three lions on there shirt and the people that belong to that crest not worry about themselves but like you say there on 100,000 grand a week wheres the hunger.

At the moment they are just 11 players and not a team.
Its up to McLaren to gel the players into a team with a particular style of play.
If the players can't gel then get rid of them.
