I don't think they do. There is envy, certainly, because we have abundant resources and a high standard of living, but not the highest -- portions of central Europe are probably doing better -- but we have as much real admiration and a lot more envy, than hate.
Envy is not really hate, although people use it that way. To say, "I wish I had what they have" is not necessarily to hate them, but to use them (us) as a model for developing something for yourself.
Our Constitution, battered though it may be these days, is a wonderfully sensible, flexible document, and has been a model for many others over the years.
Our judicial process is as fair as we can make it at the moment, and we keep working on it. Injustice does NOT, contrary to popular belief, get institutionalized here. Scandals happen (and no, the "suspects" under the Homeland Security measures should be be held indefinitely without counsel and without trial), but the process is a good one when we use it. Ultimately, much of the worst stuff is indeed struck down as unconstitutional. It is unfortunately that it takes so long, but it does work, on the whole.
Our politicians can be a pain in the buns, but the fact is, where in the world are politicians really people you want your daughter to meet? It's a fact of life, and we try to keep them as honest as possible with an aggressive press. It's an uneasy balance, but freedom of the press is, after all, vital.
So no, we are not hated by the rest of the world. We are, I am sure, hated by a few malcontents all over the place, including our own citizens. So it goes. No one is loved everywhere.

I hate to answer a question with a question, but if everyone hates us, why are they risking their lives, investing every penny they have, trying to get into this country? I think the reasons are because they
1. Fear us. Hey, we aren't trying to take over the world. If we wanted to we would have done so already, yes?
2. Envious. We have a lot here and some people think we have more than we deserve. Although they had the same status at one time and didn't give a fig what others thought of them. At least we haven't beheaded our monarchies. What other countries don't realize is that their past is at the very least as violent or corrupt or whatever you accuse us of being. Which brings me to my next number:
3. The whipping boy. It's nice to take the heat off of your country for wrongdoing. Best way? Blame the US. It seems to be the favorite past times these days. Having a problem with your own immigration issues? Blame the US! Having problems with your economy? Blame the US. Having insurgency issues? Blame the US!
I think what really gets their ire is the fact that they DEPEND on us so very much. They hate that dependency so they take those feelings out on us. I also hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the US isn't too tickled with some of the European nations out there either. I know that's a bit shocking...but we dislike their governments decisions, not the people. I think that's what makes our dislike different from your hate.

How does it feel asking a dumb question like that only to get replies?
If you are trying to stir up a little bit of controversy, then that was a poor effort.
"4/10 for effort. Must work harder next time."
I think you will find their are more hated people in the world than Americans. Let some American love into your hearts!!

Take heart, this too shall pass.
In some way or another, all great countries and civilizations have been hated throughout history for what they have or what they are. Unfortunately, America and what we are will also be a part of history some day. We are forgetting what made us as we are and falling into political and moral decadence as others before us.
While we do not look upon ourselves as an 'Empire' ( and it matters not how others see us), take it upon yourself to study past history. Look up: Empires: Byzantine, Persian, Roman, etc.

This writer is presumably one of my UK countrymen. He is quite clearly of low intellect.
It is true that a lot of the world does not like the USA (as opposed to Americans, who are of course the inhabitants of the continent of South America as well as North). Its foreign policies are not to the liking of vast amounts of the world's citizens.
However, if they (and we) are right, we are fighting evil for the better good of ALL mankind. The worry is, of course, that we are wrong.
However, to return to the question, it is a ludicrous concept that anyone can HATE everyone from one country. The USA was, of course, 50 countries who united together. The people from, say, California are as different from Texans as we are from Russians, and to hate them all is ludicrous.
In any event, whatever you might think (I, for instance, think I don't like the Germans), if you actually MEET someone from that country one-to-one the chances are that you will get on just fine. Certainly all of the Germans I have met are as nice as one could wish. As I said in a previous answer to another question, I suspect that that would equally apply if a member of Hammas met an Israeli soldier one-to-one. It certainly applied after WWII - old soldiers from the UK met their former German and Japanese enemies and became firm friends.
No, my friend, the world does not hate Americans. But the WHOLE WORLD could do without bigots like you, because it is people like you that cause most of the problems.

HMMMMMMMMMMM.........so it's true, there is more to this world than the good ol' U. S. of A.? AAAAmmmazing!!!
Get over yourself you egocentric maniac, not to mention thank you for being a beautiful example of the type of person we as Americans strive not to be; a closeminded, uneducated, self depreciating, humanly culled, hateful *****!
Heh - well said Yiggah!! Sometimes I wish I would hold back on my passionate side and be smooth and logical, then again it feels good to let go of some anger sometimes. Thanks for bringing my ire back to a more contemplative level!
Lol --- nice kellygaither!!

I'm not real proud to be an American right now myself. I hope that others can look at and not hate individuals and realize that in any nation not all people approve of the actions taken in our name. I guess I think every is entitled to their opinion and America seems rather like a "bully boy" in the past several years. I am an American and I hope we make intelligent choices in the next election.

Obviously you have not been to very many places in this world have you? I for one have traveled extensively throughout the world, and have found people to like Americans, perhaps not our policies. It goes to show that people around the world are not close minded like yourself, and are able to accept the individual rather than make gross assumptions like yourself!

well if it is true that "the rest of the world hates you" which im faily certain is false since my friends overseas are smarter than to judge all individuals in a democratic society with a badge of hatred...well it would make me feel pretty bad i suppose
