Most of it is. The part which isn't is that which angered the church.

This question gets asked a lot
HOW MUCH OF THIS NOVEL IS TRUE?
The Da Vinci Code is a novel and therefore a work of fiction. While the book's characters and their actions are obviously not real, the artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals depicted in this novel all exist (for example, Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings, the Gnostic Gospels, Hieros Gamos, etc.). These real elements are interpreted and debated by fictional characters. While it is my belief that some of the theories discussed by these characters may have merit, each individual reader must explore these characters' viewpoints and come to his or her own interpretations. My hope in writing this novel was that the story would serve as a catalyst and a springboard for people to discuss the important topics of faith, religion, and history.
BUT DOESN'T THE NOVEL'S "FACT" PAGE CLAIM THAT EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THIS NOVEL IS HISTORICAL FACT?
If you read the "FACT" page, you will see it clearly states that the documents, rituals, organization, artwork, and architecture in the novel all exist. The "FACT" page makes no statement whatsoever about any of the ancient theories discussed by fictional characters. Interpreting those ideas is left to the reader.

A lot of the background information is true, which lends the book an air of authenticity. But the main premises of the book are at the very least unverified, and in several cases proven to be false.

It is a work of fiction and intended to be interpreted as such.
There are some true facts about Opus Dei as a group, but not that they followed the plot of this story.

This is a work of fiction based on conjecture and imagination, which are based on odd items that have survived history.
For myself, I would like to believe that Jesus found love on earth. YOu can do a lot of online research to see where Brown's basis for the book came from.

No they aren't. He got a lot of historical information and added some fictional juiciness to make the book sell. And I guess he got the formula right!

it all depends on who you ask.
some websites state that he has many true facts in his book, while the exact opposite is stated on other sites.
i personally don't care either way, coz it's a good (fun) read and puts forward an interesting idea on religion (ie that there is WAY too much human intervention in religion and that it has been manipulating the masses for way too long).
all the best in your quest to find the truth...

Noooooooo........ Even though it might be really great if they were, proper historical research will show that most things in the novel are just fictional....Not all just most... However it is a very interesting read none the less...

The book is fiction based on real facts, it depends on ur beliefs as a person as to whether you beleive it all or not.
