It seems that the disease of coolness has eliminated out intellectual thinking and is concerned only with keeping up with the latest fad. I have run into my share of cool people and they are some of the most intellectually dull people I ever knew. Coolness is also a pride booster for those with no brains who find pleasure in shunning good people. I don't think anyone except me thinks that coolness is a form of evil. I run into cool people and I tell them what a bunch of dumb punks they are and that they do not know squat about life. It feels as if I am talking to a brick wall.

1. The level of attention that young people pay to being "cool" hasn't changed over the years. My parents payed just as much attention in the 50's/60's, as I did in the 80's, as my kids are today. The only thing that has changed is "what" is cool.

2. If you address the kids as "dumb punks" and tell them "they don't know squat about life" of course they are going to ignore you. Instead of coming off holier-than-thou you might want to actually try talking to them.

I'm surprised you haven't been rather seriously introduced to that brick wall if you actually talked that way to them!

However, I see your point. I often ride the bus with high school students from what I am told is an above-average California high school. They seem to be a remarkably shallow group of young people. But I wonder if that isn't what public high schools do, more generally; the faddish is what the pretty girls do, and the pretty girls rule the boys and therefore the less pretty girls as well. It's all petty power trips with sexual energies they don't know how to handle.

The serious minded are often those who simply cannot bear the public schools at all. Many of those have parents who can afford to send them to reasonably good private schools, but the only other really viable alternative is home schooling. Some serious minded kids do make it in the public schools, of course, at least outside the worst battlegrounds, but it's not easy for them, and it's clearly not preferable. Even among those who assume they will go to college, there's not a lot of real interest in intellect. It's a fact of life since the teacher's unions took over the public schools.

Hey interesting question. I really really like your question. This culture of "coolness" isn't just a phenomenon of america. It is happening in other parts of the world. I myself is one of those people. BUT when you mention that the cool ones are always the intellectually dull. I may have a different opinion. I do see that majority of the kids you find in surburban america(depending on which state) cares nothing except mass following the latest trends on mtv or getting wasted on drugs. but there are many cool people that are intellectuals and sophisticated with their own values (and very educated too).

I dont know about punks. but lets take hiphop culture for example. it changes from state to state, from country to country. you'll find that the southern hiphop scene is rather shallow and speaks of no substance (cars, blings and ho's) as compared to hiphop from chicago or in e.coast newyork where they involve originality, sophisticated lyricism, and social conscious observations.

I understand how you feel talking to those you describe as "brickwalls". Don't mingle with them too often as they'll pull you down to their own level without you even aware of. Back at highschool days there used to be this "brickwall" kid who was the central sphere of bad influence for everyone at school. Today as an adult he has paid his price.

Coolness isn't neccessarily evil. there are positive coolness out there. one just need to find it.

The problem is not with coolness but with those who misinterpret what coolness is all about. When u say that some bunch of people are cool, for thier clothes , cars or whatever ****, ur wrong at calling them that. They could be called dumb, rich or trendy but with cool dress sense. Cool depends on what ur referring to. Cool hair-style etc. What u mean is cool by mind, yes, most of the times people lack that.Cool are those people who are winners.

Your question isn't one in each of tolerance. those few who accompanied Yeshua 2000 years in the past, if he develop right into a actual individual, did no longer stay to tell the story long against Rome (decrease than the followers of "the Egyptian" who develop into Jewish and had all Jewish followers). interior a hundred years, there have been extra Roman pupils who have been Christians than nazarean or ebionites (and that they have got been non-jews besides). Even countless the Roman philosophers have been stated as judaizers (which potential they have been attempting to make some thing Jewish which develop into no longer Jewish) and if Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, Marcion, and others had their way there could be no previous testomony, no prophesies from Jewish prophets. there develop right into a debate whether or no longer they might desire to enable Jews to connect the church 1900 years in the past, and the key project develop into "that the Jews could make extra contributors Jewish, earlier the church ought to totally make Jews Christians". that could be happening right this moment, have been over 80-ninety% of those becoming a member of messianic temples are non-Jews and a few of them are changing over to classic Judaism, the place they "get the actual deal" now that they have got had exposure to Jewish ideals and rituals.
