Maybe you could ask around at your local adult learning centre or college, these may have writing courses with people studying on them who might have been able to help. I would love to do something like that but have no real experience of where to start...just a dream for me!!
Good luck with your search though!

If she doesn't have a publisher lined up (as she probably doesn't) it will be very hard for her to find a professional writer to do this, even if her story is very interesting, unless she's willing to pay them a large sum of money – probably at least £10,000.
If she does have a publisher, they should find the writer for her.

It's a biography if someone else does it.
Contact publishers first.
Not wishing to be negative but this subject is well-covered in literature.
Not to say the lady doesn't have something to add there but it's not commercial material (as if that were the highest criteria!).

i would suggest you contact a local uni and ask anyone in the literature department. they might have some info on someone who is keen to do what you ask.
you could also ask a publishing house if they know of people who would like to do this. of course there'll be a cost involved, but what you ask and propose sounds like a really good idea, so best of luck with it.
i also agree with the first answer and ask your library.

There are searchable databases of writers on The Writers' Guild website and on Writernet.

You can't find someone to write this lady's autobiography, as an autobiography is written by someone about their own life. A biography, however, is written by someone else and this is what you're looking for.

Ask at any library. They will know how to find someone. Someone doing their genealogy may be able to help as well. The library would know where to get that information too.

How about this for an idea - why don't you record her talking about her life, either freely or in a kind of interview situation, then either you yourself or someone else could transcribe it.

Trick question, EH? It's not an autobiography unless you write it about yourself.
