Most women are more emotional than men, this is a scientific fact. Being sentimental is part of the emotions, so yes they are more sentimental.
Another fact that needs to be taken into consideration, is that men tend to hide their emotions. Simply because society stipulates that men are tough and can handle a mighty blow. Women are fragile, need emotional support etc.
I am pasting a link that shows the difference between the brains and how that affects their level of emotions.

Depends on the person really. Some men are quite sentimental, and some aren't. Same goes for women.

No ! I know some men full of compassion and some women
who are down right evil. This is not a gender issue at all.
