The latest "Stable" version of Google Earth is version 3.0.07xx.
The latest "Beta" version of Google Earth is version 4.x -- but this version is potentially buggy.
ALL VERSIONS of Google Earth can be downloaded from http://earth.google.com ! Please note that you'll need a broadband connection to use Google Earth.

good question. an even better question is one that would ask for a version that has updated pictures.
it shows dirt fields near my house where apartment buildings were built over ten years ago. down the street from me, six years ago, a CVS was built. google earth still shows a grass field. about 18 years ago, 12 years before i moved into this house, my home was actually the place of business for a limousine company. why do pictures of my house still show limos parked outside?
they really need to get their images up to date.
