Personally, I think it's Sergeant Peppers. No way is it the best album ever.

Sgt Pepper is highly (I think overly) lauded, but not overrated. It certainly deserves a high amount of praise.
It was a highly innovative LP on its release and it is still more innovative than 99% of the albums that are released in this day and age.
This was an album that took major and significant risks - NOBODY takes risks on an album these days. Green Day took a few mild risks on "American Idiot" but it was still tame in comparison.
I reckon the album that turns up on most critics "best LPs of all time" lists that is so overrated is "Blonde On Blonde" by Bob Dylan. "Sad Eyed Lady of The Lowlands" is not a classic - it drags on way too long and shouldn't have had a whole album side devoted to it. "Highway 61 Revisited" was a way better album.
Nirvana's Unplugged LP is also overrated. It's downright awful in parts and contains some of the sloppiest guitar work ever committed to tape. Nevermind has sloppy guitar work too, but when guitars are distorted beyond all recognition through a Marshall amp, you can cover up a multitude of sins. You can't so that on an acoustic guitar.
Metallica's "Load" and "Reload" LPs garnered heaps of hype but were at best mediocre.

I was thinking the Beatles' White Album until I saw were you put Sgt. Pepper's. Now, I'm thinking Sgt. Peppers was even more overrated than the White Album. I don't think Pink Floyd's The Wall was overrated or underrated, I think it was JUST RIGHT...lol
Now, as for the Village People's YMCA.... WAY OVERRATED!

I have to agree with you, since I cannot stand the beatles.
But I think the Album that was over rated was "Another Brick in the Wall" .
