I purchase items with credit cards all the time. Over the Internet, by phone, in department stores. Just make sure that you keep your personal info safe. Do not give it out to just any one. You can also check with your credit card company to see what their policy is on unauthorized purchases. We use our discover card. And our Capital one MasterCard the most. Because both companies have good fraud protection. and unauthorized purchase policies.
Some tips.
Never give out your PIN number.
Never give out your social security number, unless it is asked for by your credit card company.
Make sure you sign the back of your card. So that if someone else should try to use it, they can compare signatures.

Use virtual account numbers. Citigroup offers them and others may as well. It flat out rocks.

1) You get to generate a new credit card number for each site that you want to give your card to.
2) You can set limits on that (total amount, time limit, etc.)
3) Once a company dips into the card once, nobody else can unless it comes from that same system. So even if it is stolen out of their database, they can't use it.
4) You can track how much of your limits has been used (so if you allocate $100 over 3 mo, you can see how much was pulled, when, and how much is left).

Great FREE feature of a Citi account (and possibly others).

Here is my tip for you... Look at what you're buying.... Say you're buying from Norton AntiVirus.... Well WE KNOW THATS SAFE... But if you''re buying from a place that you don't know or isn't famous you shouldn't really trust it. And the safest type is not where you write you info.... New banks websites have this like visual keyboard where you click the letters and numbers so you can't get keylogged :) Hope I Helped
