if you go to Dick SMiths or harvey norman, you can but a compeq laptop for $1200 inlcudes a DVD burner etc
Thats amid range one, but you can buy cheaper ones, shop around, make sure you get the best deal for price and for what extras you get!

i would recomment you taiwan brand like the ASUS and ACER, if you are not so brand concern. it's often value for money compare to other branded laptop like the TOSHIBA and SOny VA10. and normally comes with alot of extra.

you should go with HP Pavillion DV8380. You may be able to get it for a1500 in ebay.. I have it and it does all I need for gaming and then sume
