Tortoises tend to be diurnal animals with tendencies to be crepuscular depending on the ambient temperatures. They are generally reclusive and shy.

First and foremost u did not state the age of your tortoise. Secondly i had read somewhere that "Loneliness is a preoccupation of the (human) keeper, not the tortoise". So i think u will understand tortoise likes to be away from others and live in its lonely quarters.
Thirdly a tortoise reaches maturity at around the age of 10-14 yrs so you have to judge the need for breeding depending on its age. If you do want to breed you should either adopt an animal of the opposite sex or reach an agreement with someone who has a single healthy tortoise that has been kept well away from other tortoises. Before introducing them, get both animals checked out by an experienced veterinarian.
Finally knowing the sex is another aspect of your problem.
its the tail that might help u in differentiating the sex. Females have longer tails.
Best way is to fetch a vet. he'll definitely help in more than one way,e.g., in case u want to find same specie partner for your tortoise etc.

As a rule, tortoises live alone and only find another during mating time. Otherwise, they are likely to ram each other or stress each other. The other question is that of space. Since the average space needed by an adult tortoise runs about 4'x8', I suspect that your 'big box' is not really big enough for even one tortoise.
As for sex, you cannot easily sex a young tortoise, but as they get older, the male will develop a definite inward curve to his belly and a long, thin tail. The female's belly will be flat or slightly bulged and her tail wide and short.

You cant tell there sex until they are 14 years old... And for lonliness no you dont need another turtle! Turtles like being alone and are not sociable animals! If you put in one right now there is a 70% chance it will kill the other one or injure it!

You must know that there are only three types of tortoises in the US,and they are protected species.Getting caught with one carries a $5000 fine.
They need lots of space and lots of care. They also hybernate.
Let her free and get a more suitable pet.

well do you like being alone? Ok then get her a friend, a male friend so she can enjoy herself too. Poor little turtle. I know on somme turtles you can tell the sex by the colors that they have.
