The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a 2005 horror/thriller film directed by Scott Derrickson. The film is based on the true story of Anneliese Michel a young Catholic woman who died in 1976 after unsuccessful attempts to cure her from the alleged state of demonic possession with the means of psychotropic drugs. Also, church-approved exorcism was performed on her, according to her wish. According to the court, her death was caused by medical neglect at the wishes of the priest watching over her. The story of her short life, strong faith and exhausting struggle with what seemed to be supernatural powers served as the basis for this horror movie.
I doubt their is a real lesson to be learnt, but it does question faith.

The setting takes place in four seperate areas. There is her family's home, a courtroom, the priest's jail cell and Emily Rose's dorm room on campus. Her family lives in a farm house with a barn, and that is where a majority of the incidents take place. The movie switches often between the courtroom where witnesses are telling the story of what they saw and experienced, and flashbacks of what happened to her at her home.
The lesson of the movie was two-fold: there is no way of knowing 100% what really happened, but it is clear that the priest fully believed that she suffered from demonic forces. It would have been a better idea to have her housed at an asylum to find out if it was truly a possession or perhaps it really was a mental/physical disorder. The ultimate theme is religion versus medical science.

Emily comes back from caollege to her family's farm after she appears to be crazy but they don't seem to be able to treat her with drugs and or therapy and get anywhere. A priest tells her that the drugs may be making her susseptable to her problems so she gets off the medication and only gets worse. So the take her to the barn where she goes completely schizophrenic. The priest is eventually put on trial for her death . The lesson is that religion is a question of faith and whether you can believe in something that you can't see. If you can then you can believe she was possessed. If you can't then you have to believe the priest called the girls death. But it is his contention that that was the lesson Emily learned and that is the reason he took the witness stand in his defense to tell her story as a story of a person reclaiming their faith in the face of great temptation. He said she chose the path she died by so that others might appreciate her sacrifice.

That maybe you should be protected from evil by going to a christian church and become a follower? Everyone's different but thats what I got the feeling the lesson was. I recommend you see The Exorcist which was made in 1973. I'm only 18 now (made years before I was born) but when I saw that, I was afraid of the dark for some time!
