Woverine is getting a spin off, Magneto is getting a prequel, and as of yet X4 is only in discussion, but would likely focus on the students rather than the staff.

Ok... here is the low down that I recently came accross while net surfing. Apparently, there WILL be a 4th X-Men film and all the "newer" actors (those who played Kitty, Colossus, Angel... maybe) have been mentioned by producers as already signing on. They are still pursuing the bigger actors... I guess giving them a chance to state their fee and such.
And what I read about X:3 being the last film in the franchise... they said it was meant to be the last film to that particular story line and that there would be more stories in the future.
If you want more information search for X-Men 4 on Yahoo or take a peek at the Rotten Tomatoes news archives.

well, it certainly looks like they left the door open at the end of it - doesn't it?
After all, Magneto is shown starting to get a little of his powers back when causing the chess piece to move. Of course, don't you find it odd that they'd give him metal chess pieces anyways? For Pete's sake, the guy could control metal - what are you doing now - just trying to piss him off?
According to a review of the DVD that I just read, there is a possibility that they could do some sort of spin-off with Wolverine, and some of the other characters in it. They couldn't really say "X-Men" anymore since they killed off half the team.
Personally, when compared to the comic books, I think the movies have been quite a disappointment. Iceman and Rogue? And then a little "love triangle" with Iceman, Rogue and Kitty (Sprite)? In the comic books Kitty hits it up with Colusus.
Also, Rogue was a seriously underdeveloped mutant in the movies - all she did was suck power - and I think we saw her use her power 3 times (4 if you count at the begining of the movie when she kissed the guy). In the comic books, she had the ability to copy a mutants power by just touching them - and I don't think it sapped them in anyway. So really, while not as powerful as Jean Grey, she could tap Wolverine's healing ability, Colusus's strength, and Kitty's ability to go through walls - and then use all three powers simultaneously.
When you watch her in the movie - I'm wondering why they even gave her a uniform - they didn't give the kid who could change channels by blinking a uniform - why Rogue?
Anyways - considering how poorly the movie did - I don't think they'll come out with another one - though they definitely did leave the door open.

I hope so. The studio are hinting for one. It would be a mistake if they didn't. Every film they make, makes more money than the last one. At the end of X-men 3, Magneto is sitting in front of a chess board and barely moves the chess piece meaning "the cure" probably doesn't work. And at the very end, you ear Professor X in the body of a man in a coma. So they could make more movies

i think yes!!
its not a 'last stand' at all.
remember in X men 3, magneto could still move the chess piece in the end. that shows he still has mutant powers. as long as the antagonist lives, there will be a sequel

no there will not be, in an interview with Hugh Jackman he said that this is the last one they are going to make, however I am guessing that maybe with the way they made the end of X-Men The Last Stand that they left it open the way they did in case they wanted to make spin offs of it

i don't think so...
they usually come in 3s......rem:.. matrix, star wars,...etc...
part of the marketing mix...rem:..they have to sell...mugs, t-shirts, games, posters, ..etc....
it's easy for them (and economical too) to make 3, rather than 1 ...!!!!
all part of the advertising mix....
