Because there're people of many races living there.

Majority of the people in Singapore are Chinese, followed Malay, Indian, Eurasian, and others.

Malay is the national language (the national anthem is in Malay), but English is used for administrative purposes, and most people there speak English, on top of their own mother tongue.

Even between the different races, there're different dialect groups, thus making the country even more diverse.

Better still, they co-exist rather peacefully, and inter-racial marriages are not uncommon :)
