Today for some unknown reason, we put the password (it is correct) and it logs in half way but doesnt load up the background desktop with all the icons, its says loading... then after a second it says logging off and goes back to the password bit again! why is it doing that? We pushed in all the plugs and cables and restarted and everything but still does the same. We even toook the side off and cleared away the dust inside. It doesnt even let us in so we can get options up and clear cookies and cache etc. please help! we need the computer! any ideas much appreciated!! Please keep it simple lol x

It does sound like you have a virus infection or a major system problem.
I would suggest the following to TRY and repair the system without a complete reinstall.

Put your XP boot disk in the cd drive and reboot. The Cd should boot up the system into install mode. Select your windows partition but do not go for and install, instead you should have a REPAIR option. Use this and it will then go through and reinstall the system files without wiping out you existing windows setup.

Then, DO NOT boot normally! Boot into safe mode and run all the virus, spyware and adware scanners you have! This will hopefully catch all the nasties on your system.

If you let the system boot normally, you may well re-infect your system before you can repair it!
