if your baby was discharged from the hospital without specific instructions from the doctor to keep her indoors then i don't see the harm in taking her out for a little walk
i would avoid places that are largely populated ( grocery stores, the mall, etc) b/c you know how people get when they see a new baby-they always want to get real close to see or touch the baby. my youngest daughter was also a preemie-born at 33 weeks and weighed 4 pounds-i was fortunate that she only stayed in the nicu for 2 days to monitor her eating and then i was able to take her home. i kept her indoors for about a month just to be safe.
i think a walk would be just fine as long as the weather is comfortable (not too hot or too cold) b/c her immune system is more immature than that of a normal term baby. but i would keep her out of public areas for a little while longer.
congratulations on your little one-you'll be surprised at how fast she grows!! my preemie has passed her older sister in weight and height (her sister is 13 months older) and the older sister was not preemie!!

I would always recommend that you check with your doctor about any concerns that you have when it comes to your child. After all, they are the experts. But I don't see why you wouldn't be able to take the baby for a walk as long as the weather isn't too extreme. Be sure and dress the baby for the weather you are taking them out in. Don't bundle them too much or they will get over heated, but on the other hand, don't let the child get too cold. If the doctor gives the go ahead, I'd say a good walk would be beneficial to both of you. Good luck and congrats.

My son was 4/11 at birth, born in Sept. when the weather was getting cooler. I started taking him out when he got about 6-7 lbs. I just kept him all bundled up. But we stayed at home inside since it was getting cooler outside and only went out for doc visits. I was just paranoid otherwise.

I would ask her doctor first to be on the safe side. My son was premature he was born at 33 weeks and weighted 4 lbs. 10 oz. he only spent 2 weeks in special care but the doctors didn't want him to really go to many places at first "he was born on thanksgiving day nov. 27, 03".

Hi!
My husband and I gave birth to twin girls last November. They were born at 32 weeks. They weighed 3lbs, 8oz, 16in and 3lbs, 13oz and 17in, respectively.
They came home on Nov. 20th and since it was Fall/Winter, we never took them out of the home. Except to see the pediatrician.
We were afraid they would get colds.
But, as soon as March and April arrived, we took them out as much as possible.
It is just whatever is right for you darlin. You are the Mommy.
Praise the Lord for your little one. Have you ever been to the March of Dimes website? There are many women like us who talk about their preemies. They may have some help for you.
God Bless you!

Talk with your doc to see if her immune system is all good and if is then go for walks just bundle up and keep her warm and if you get cold then you know the baby is cold and take her inside, or if it gets to windy, just check with your doc first to make sure. I am sure she is ready since they let you bring her home but just to be on the safe side.
