It's generally used as a moisturiser in hand and hair creams. Glycerin is absorbed into the skin where it works by attracting water to itself, helping to retain water in the skin surface.

Glycerin cream (for skin use) is considered a skin care product that is usually used for people with sensitive and problem dry skin. It is also used by people who want to protect their skin against harsh elements and changing extremes in climate or day-to-day damages of the skin caused by environmental influence, work, and handling skin-damaging substances. Like any lotion, you will get maximum satisfaction when used on a regular basis. It also is said to restore natural beauty and softness of the skin, balances and replace moisture to the skin. It is safe to be used by all skin types And used by men, women, and children. It is added to many lotions.
Products containing Urea work very well for dry skin - I use them, and I like them better. But if you want a glycerin, Glysolid is a good one. But, not cheap.
