When they apply for a job, they are either over-qualified or demand too much money.

The main reason is the system of education. The syllabus of a graduate of any stream should be made viable, felxible and adjustable according to the needs of the economy. That means that changes in subjects of studies should be taken place to the tune of the economic tendencies of a country. As the activities advances by days and years the subjects should also advance. It is totally absurd to offer degrees as customary as BA,BCOM,BSc and so on.These traditional lables should be abolished.Forecast the need of future graduates and to what field and then organise the courses.eg.When we have enough graduates of BA or BCOM why should we produce more when there is no need. This is the problem for Graduates Unemployment. There is no demand to cope with the amount of graduates who annually passed out from the universities.

Probably because they give no forethought to the future of the job market. When someone receives a degree in "Basket Weaving" or the "History of Television" they should realize that the job market for them will be seriously limited.

All joking aside, my first statement still stands - forethought given to the job market and deciding what type of education/degree is needed to meet the needs of the job market.

Sadly, our high schools and educational systems do little to prepare a graduate for such decisions and foresight. The days of the importance of having a degree in finding a job are gone - the degree-holding job seeker has saturated the market. Now, it is important to have a degree in some area relevant to the job opening.

Because unlike 30 years ago, a graduate was much more rare. Now, everyone has a degree and you have far too many applicants for the posts that are available. This is especially true in the IT sector, buisness areas, psycologists and socioligists as these are the more popular degrees. However, if you are a scientist, you are quids in - there is a skill shortage!
