I can list reasons PCs are better than Macs by today's computing standards but can't think of any for the defense of Macs other than ease-of-use.

PCs have more software than Macs
PCs have cheaper and wider choice of component than Macs
PC software is more configurable by convention
PCs have just more of everything than Macs.

I guess that is why Apple Macs are now running Windows since it is convenient to allow it so natively.

This is all a matter of opinion, but overall I find that the Mac platform is better for several reasons.

1. There are no active or wild viruses for OSX and that includes malware and spyware.

2. The OSX system is built with a strong emphasis on user permissions and is inherently more effective and keeping secure. Windows Vista will try and match this system to gain some of the same advantages.

3. The Mac OS has fewer "quirks" that are unexplainable and in general devices and software seems to just work more often than my experience with Windows.

4. The underpinnings of OSX is based on Unix and if you use X11 with it, you can install numerous open-source apps that are available for Linux. This can be great if you're a developer or programmer.

Overall I find OSX to be far more feature rich, stable, and secure than Windows XP. This is not to say that Vista won't close that gap significantly, but that's still months away and no one can be sure how it will work once people use it on a massive scale. Also, by then the next version of OS X will be out and the gap may widen again.

Of course this is my opinion, and I have heard people make "some" arguments for Windows over Mac, but most of the time they say - well, you get more games for Windows - this is true. If gaming is your goal, Windows is great, but then again you can install Windows on a Mac, so you could always play your games regardless. Or they say, well I need Windows to run such and such app that's only made for Windows - true again. The same could be true for Mac apps too though - that's just how that works.

Then people say "PCs have more software than Macs" - untrue. Where this misconception came from, I don't know. But there are hundreds of thousands of titles for Macs and PCs - just because application A is windows only, doesn't mean application C isn't Mac only. I've never had a need to be filled by software that I couldn't find for the Mac - ever.

I suggest spending some time with a Mac - go into an Apple store and play with it, ask questions etc... if you're already familiar with Windows, then compare it to what you know - if not, then give Windows a try too. Vista is sure to be a huge improvement over XP, so it may be worth downloading the Vista beta if you can.

Yes.

How: because the difference is so vast.

Why: Because its smooth, slick, sophisticated and the Rolls Royce of operating systems

Compare XP = wading through mud to Mac OS X = swimming in turquoise waters.

Mac's hold their price!
Mac's work!
Mac's are polite! Yes they talk

I switched this year after working through Windows 3.1 to XP
and would NEVER switch back to PC now.

It depends what you are trying to do. If you surf the web, read email, and IM, the mac is quite stable and works quite well. However, most games do not run on it (but World of Warcraft does)
