In June 2004, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team
(CERT) took the unusual step of urging PC users to use a browser--any browser--other than IE.

why keep on struggling with explorer when you can have Firefox or Niche for free?
You can get them both here:

I was experiencing the same problem but Internet Explorer would not stay open long enough for me to go to the Microsoft website to download the latest version.
So, I managed to find a very old disk, remember the ones you used to get free all over the place, newspapers, supermarkets, petrol stations, etc offering Internet connection using dial up for 1p a minute or something.
I loaded the old version of Internet Explorer from the disk which ran fine, this allowed me to go to the Microsoft site and download the latest version and to ensure that my PC had all the relevant updates.
I hope this helps and you have one those old Cd's around.

If you can get your internet to run long enough, this website: http://www.mozilla.com/ will allow you to download Firefox.
Firefox is a web browser (like internet explorer) but it is free and much less likely to fail.
Also, to make sure your computer is up to date with software, go to the start menu, and in the control panel, find "automatic updates." You'll probably want them to do everything automatically if you don't already have it set that way.

Try cleaning your browser cache and temporary files;download CCleaner (free)
http://www.ccleaner.com/
before you use ccleaner, make sure you close your browser
If you are using Yahoo toolbar - disable it (go to View>Toolbars and remove the tick) or uninstall it via the Control Panel> add/remove programs
download the latest version of yahoo toolbar if you need it and reinstall it.

There are other browers out there besides IE. Try Firefox, I have been using it for years with no problems. It works with Windows and Linux OS and there are extensions you can download to make it look and feel the way you want.

Hope this was helpful
