There is no way for you to know if they have read an email that you sent them. In the future when you want to know if a person has read an email you have sent them, you can choose the option "request read receipt" which will send you an email telling you if and when they have read the email (not available on all email programs, or on some internet email)

Select options on the email taskbar and check the Read receipt - when the recipient opens the email, they get a pop-up telling them you have requested a receipt saying they've read the message.
They can select not to check that though, so there's no foolproof way as far as I know.

How do you know if they read your email? When they tell you so.

You also have other options:

1) Using Outlook, compose a new message, click 'options' and check 'request a read receipt for this message'. They may not accept you receipt request though.

2) Add a message to your signature saying 'Please reply to confirm receipt of this message'.

3) Add a tracking cookie (in the form of an image) to the message. They must have cookies enabled and you need some means to track it.

4) Attach a virus to the message and they will reply to you faster than you might think. That's your confirmation. This will only work if they survive the virus.

5) Just give them a damn phone call and ask if they received your email. What da......

I think it depends on your email client but with some you can certainly request confirmation that the email has been read.

Only service I know that will allow you to see that, is to send mail from an AOL account to another AOL user. Never heard of any other service that does that.
