magnesium chloride is a compound. since it occurs due to a chemical reaction between two elements, it is definitely a compound. and the two elements (magnesium & chloride) are joined by ionic bonds between them. and it is also a salt becoz one element is a metal and the other one is a non-metal. when metals and non-metals react, they give rise to salt. hope this helped

It is definitely a salt. People may call it "compound" but this term indicates many different substances.
Magnesium chloride is used in biochemistry as a co-factor of ATP, used by protein kinases to transfer phosphate groups from one protein to another. The normal concentration used in cell biology is 5mM as this is roughly the expected concentration of the endogenous ATP (it should be equimolar).
Hope this helps

A compound, a salt.
Compound because it contains atoms of more than one element.
It is NOT a mixture because it cannot be separated by physical means (e.g. filtration).
It is NOT a metal, although Magnesium is.
It is NOT a solvent, because it exists as a solid.
