It just takes that extra little moment to try and figure out what they're trying to say, instead of just immediately getting it. A minor annoyance, made more so by the fact of the automatic spell checker above each message box. When one takes communication seriously, as we 4th Level Answerer's do, we find it a little disheartening when others come here and waste our time and the product of our precious genius brains, so willing to help, and ask nothing in return except a few meaningless points and the occasional Best Answer. Yay me!

If it's at least comprehensible, it doesn't matter. However, if you can't even read the question, then what's the point...? That's why spelling and grammar are so important. Also, if you want to be taken at least mildly seriously, you don't ask something like "wuts ur fav movie! ?" People can pretty much gauge your intelligence level from something as simple as being able to type correctly. Is it mean? Sure, but if you don't want to be mocked, then just type so that we can actually read what you want us to answer.

It is very annoying to read a question that is full of typos. It is also very annoying to read words which do not constitute a proper sentence.

Once you learn how to spell and how to construct a sentence, you, too, will be annoyed with those who can't spell or write as you.

Hope this helps.

If you spoke to someone who pronounced at least half their words incorrectly, it would irritate you. No matter how sweet and nice you are, you'd rather they just stop talking.
To many fully literate people, frequent mispelling have that same effect. I don't correct people, but I can see why some people do.

I guess it's because they're more interested in the form of your message than in the message itself. Also, it happens when they don't like what you're saying. They try to dismiss the whole thing by criticising your spelling.

Bad spelling makes a person look a little less intelligent and lazier than those who spell correctly. Especially those who use "u" instead of "you" and "r" for are.

Because it makes them feel better about themselves. The only time I ever point it out is when someone complains about people's spelling and they have spelling errors themselves because that's just hilarious!
