The earthquake on 8th Oct 2005 at 1052 PST (+0500 GMT) took the lives of more than 55,000 people according to government figures. It was the worst natural disaster to hit the country since independence.

One year on, about 2000 people are still unknown, many are still shelterless and yet many others await financial aid. The tourism industry was badly effected and still needs full revival. Many remain jobless.

Aid agencies still continue to provide relief but the resources have reduced over the year.

What do you think of the efforts on part of the government, NGOs and aid agencies? Do you think you can make a change?

well not enough but doing to good extend!!! infact the disaster was so massive that u cnat see the cahnge that soon , though the help session is nearly off now n wht i m feeling that its only in papers whtever thay r making programs for rehabilitaions(i wish it should be aced upon)...but now what i see is that peoples r in that state where thye can think of themselves n can makea layout for their future.its not enough for governament or NGO to do all n sorry to say that aid dont go to all deserving pplz as there is sooooo many corruptions among strategy making ppls, n they r not working properly n more corruption at lower level, but still some change is there...some positive change esp regarding their mental status, wht i feel now that they can cope with it n go easily now, now govt should d is to provide jobs to them, so that they can make their living by earning themsleves, the rehabilitaion program is good provided it is acted properly but i m much disappointed by NWFP govt, they r too lazy n cant control thethings properly,
wud sumarise wht i wanted to say in words that only govet NGO cant do all, infact public should do by themselves too,one year is enough to get out of shock n now they should move side by side only in that way they can bring their previous statis back, well if thye only rely on govt that it wil take years more to get back.......no one can be that sincer to them as they themselves can be, so govt should give them way n they should make their way out ........
n yes i wud realy apprciate the role of our public, every one was mad for helping somehow, n they did alot, the maximum aid was from our own pakistani n i m proud of it....
may God bless pakistan n help our pplz to get out of this

I'm sorry to be negative, but no, I don't think I can make a difference.

The place is a military dictatorship and most land is owned by a clique of major landowners. These people don't really care about their subjects, so while the NGOs may be softening the blow and doing some good, nothing will really change while such a government and social hierarchy is in place

There isn't any god to do those matters, so, get that from your head and you'll think so much larger. Theists inform that god created this earth for persons, however god did not supply the persons so much habitable land. So, persons construct thier houses on the foot of the mountains and by means of the sea wherein those average parties take location. I do not believe there may be one rectangular foot of land in the entire earth wherein a few style of average crisis would possibly not kill you. Humans have allways concept they located that location after which they run out of water and transfer. The crulest comic story this non-god ever pulled on persons was once giveing them an ocean they usually are not able to drink the water.

Government did it part but not at its best but if there hasn't been any military leadership, the situation could have been even more worse.

Focus, Edhi and the camps at Karachi PAF did make a huge difference. International and national medical teams worked really hard.

If you talk about corruption then see the state of New Orleans. It is everywhere. We can control it but can't eradicate it.

Your government is pretty much the only entity that can make a positive change now.The homeless and jobless should be relocated to a more livable part of the country until their homes can be rebuilt.
Why would anyone stay in an area that is that unbearable?

Help comes but slowly. The immediate reaction of everyone all over the world was one of sympathy and help. Gradually external help ceased and victims are left suffering. Local leaders must press for the non responsive government and self help must begin. Pakistani president is busy protecting himself from a coup.
