I am actually a firefighter, so I can honestly tell you there are no by-laws stating a fallen firefighter must be cremated. It is a matter of personal opinion, the family decides. The firehouse however will often have a ceremony to commemorate their fallen comrade. If a firefighter is killed in the line of duty, large memorials are held, and firefighters come from far and wide to honor their fallen brother. The movie Ladder 49 shows some of the ceremony, where the casket, draped with an American Flag, is loaded onto an engine and driven to the cemetery. I personally don't see cremation of a firefighter as wrong, but other people think differently.

They are human like everyone else. They make their own decisions of what happens to them when they die. I am sure that some on them do get cremated.

I believe it's their choice just like everyone else. I've never heard of it as taboo or anything. Interesting thought.
