I mean to say are there any rules in hindi grammar that decides the gender of non living things, like why the bus has feminine gender whereas truck has masculine gender?

Manipuri friend and they do not know Hindi language - its not palatable.

Any way gender of non living things are mostly decided based on the their similarity with characteristics of the thing. For example Truck is masculine as it represent strength (Sorry no offensive here - I do not mean that female lack strength) whereas Bus is more accommodating - it help everyone, its caring as it provide comfort so it is feminine.

Sun is masculine because it is so strong whereas Earth is feminine because of same reason as Bus.

Sorry mate Hindi rules of grammar are not my strong point!!! But in other languages there is no law or reason to nouns having a masculine or feminine definite article, it just is!!
