I know there are lots of songs out there peppered with vulgarities, profanities and expletives that are not exactly meant for some ears, and some things are pretty offensive and racist. But when the radio station or censorship board bleeps them out, is it considered disrespectful for the artist (producer or songwriter)?

Strangely, can anyone explain why some radio stations bleeps out certain words but not other radio stations? Does it mean there are varying standards of what's considered a dirty word and what's not for different stations?

Just give your two cents worth.
Thanks.

It's not like we don't know what they bleeped out. It's either one of those f-words or god**** somethings.

If I had to choose between having a few words censored or my song not being played at all, I'd choose the censorship. The message remains, and most listeners can figure out what the bleeped word was supposed to be. After all, I wouldn't have a career without airplay and the audience it brings. I don't consider it disrespectful to clean up public broadcasts; in fact, I find it disrespectful to be profane to a public audience. If someone really wants to hear what I have to say, uncut, they'll buy my disc.

There's a list of words that can't appear on the radio, but many stations volunteer to bleep more than the minimum. It minimizes the amount of unfavorable mail they get for being "family unfriendly."

No, it's not disrespectful, they are fully aware that when they write and record these songs they are more than likely to get bleeped out, there are young kids listen to these radio stations, you don't find swearing on daytime TV, well not in the UK, so why have it on the radio, ok after a certain time at night it is more acceptable, that's my two pence worth:-)

True, I agree. Some 'artists' put out their songs with the words pre-bleeped so they can get aired. That seems kinda hokey to me. I'm guessing that some stations over censor because of their listening audience. Those opposed to anything 'dirty' in their lives are usually vocal about it: anally obssessed, i think its called.
Oh, and jackolant just hasn't actually listened to the music he derides, he's one of 'them'...
