There are one thousand megabytes in a gigabyte.

kilo means thousand as in kilobyte
mega means million as in megabyte
giga means billion as in gigabyte
tera means trillion as in terabyte

Most common uses in today's home computing:
-Downloads are usually rated in kilobits per second. That has shifted now to kilobytes per second

-System and video memory are still rated in megabytes, but that
will be changing in the next 5 years

-Hard drives are still rated in gigabytes and that too will be
changing in the next 5-7 years. Soon, they will be rated in
terabytes

Some people broke it down like they were still in college or something. This is the easiest way for people that don't fool around with this information on a day in, day out basis.

You said gb. Now gb (lowercase) would mean gigabit.
I am assuming you meant Gigabyte (GB).

1 gigabyte (GB)=1.25 gigabit (Gb)=1024 Megabytes (MB).
