I've bought a USB cable with a 4 pin IEEE1394 connector on one end and a USB A connector on the other. When I connected the video camera using the cable to the PC, Windows XP indicated that an unknown device was installed. I intend to use Windows Movie Maker 2 to import the video clips into the PC.

First thing, this doesnt work, even it is supposed to, movie on USB sucks on quality!!. You need a Firewire card with IEEE1394 ports. And a IEEE1394 4pin to 9pin connector.

Assuming u dont want to do that, you need USB drivers for your camera and installing that will enable you to use the camera on ur PC. Check out in the Manufacturer's website for the same.

update your windows xp through the internet.

then unplug the cable and replug it again.

ps: you might need to restart the computer.

also check if the usb ports on your computer is usb 1.x or 2.x.

good luck!
