As time passed by so does the original celebration is lost, like Christmas. Although there is actually no harm with that because the young generations of today are very active sexually, which may be a bad thing, yet celebrating Valentine's Day is not actually about Saint Valentine himself but this is the time to celebrate love and romance. Premarital sex should be done between two adult consenting parties and not by teenagers who are not even aware of the consequences of their actions. Commercialized or not, we cannot deny the fact that it is still the celebration of love. Goodluck!

Saint Valentine continued to practice heterosexual marriage ceremonies when heterosexual marriage was outlawed, because of its effect on military age young men.

He was honored. His commitment to ways that give true life to community and give true honor to God are honored. His god is honored. What society "has done" is what it has been doing for a long time, and isnt surprising at all. The self-destroyed cant act not self-destroying: they cant behave inconsistently with respect to their destroyed-ness. Except for grace, they are already all over with but for the dying.

Remember those pagans that some claim these holidays were "stolen from" also believed in and practiced involuntary human sacrifice in worship to their "gods". Try reading the original Homer, or other non-censored authors of the period. The crime for which tens of thousands of christians were burned alive as human torches for sport, was that of not worshipping those pagan gods, consider how Nero is recorded by history to have lit his chariot races in honor to his pagan gods. You are attributing a theft of a holiday where peoples families and friends were brutally murdered and died horribly at the hands of roman pagan zealots. Think about it.

Im a big fan of heterosexual marriage myself, and a big fan of Mr. Valentine who at such insane risk of a government characterized globally both inside and outside the country as profoundly brutal, stood by and strongly obeyed his religious and personal convictions.

I think it was actually an old fertility festival which the Christians usurped like they did with Easter and Christmas.
