She was probably giving you the name of the drink so that you would be able to order it by name the next time you came into a Starbucks.
You're not wrong for feeling insulted. Many of us English speaking folk feel like we're being pushed out of the way for the Spanish speakers.
Chances are that the company did some market research and decided that the fancier name would sell the drink in greater volume.

All I ever wanted was a small cup of coffee. The supermarket use to sell coffee for a buck and only 88 cents if you a senior. Well Starbuck's comes along and they don't even sell coffee in the market anymore. So I go into Starbucks and ask for a cup of coffee, cream no sugar. The person behind the counter starts asking me do I want a cafe grande latte whatever. So I show attitude and say "all I want is a regular coffee, can you do that?"
Well I get that coffee and because I can fill up the cream myself from the counter he only filled the small cup half way so I wouldn't hurt myself. You have to be nuts to spend $3.85 or what ever for a cup of coffee every morning. The next thing after a couple of lattes they're complaining about how they must lose some weight...

That's a rough one to supply a unmarried reply to however as an alternative calls for a few exploring. In concept you attempt to persist with the appropriate ways of handling antagonistic circumstances, well mannered, civil, calm and many others.... But whilst it comes right down to it if the problems are provoked to the factor that they end up burning problems then the survival intuition kicks in and I continuously wish that once that occurs that I have now not made a entire and utter crisis of matters with my response. I am announcing that I emotionally categorical myself, could ought to cry, could ought to rant, could need to confront after which blow off the steam relying... If it's some thing unhappy like melanoma or a middle assault finishing but an additional existence then for me individually it's internalizes. I take that to middle and it alterations and results my each and every notion and motion however beneath the outside and I do not manage, it's an instinctual response telling me to are living my existence as real as I can due to the fact you'll be able to be long past in an immediate. Keep smiling again at you....:)

Well, walking out like that is a bit rude. After all, most businesses have special names for their food in order to have a standard recognition of what is being said. For example, if you go to McDonalds and you wanted a big hamburger, you'll most probably say "I would like a BigMac" instead of starting to describe what the burger has on & in it and all that kind of stuff. So, there is a reason why businesses choose specific names. But on the hand, the cashier wasn't being too polite(from the way you put it that is) either. Maybe she said something which ticked you off. Maybe it was her attitude! Anyway, don't worry about that. If you just don't feel comfortable in spending your money there, just move on to another one. No big deal.

Every business has special names for their product. McDonald's wants you to call their nuggets MCnuggets. Try going to Burger King and ask for a "burger" - you will probably not get a whopper. Even though the finished product may be the same, the name seems important to a corporation because of the image it imposes on their product. Starbucks wants to be pretentious, let them. There are less pretentious coffee bars if that bothers you.
But IMHO, I do think that the barista was a little rude, if it went down how you described it. I probably woud have just said "call it what you want, but please don't argue with me as you make it. It is not impressive or becoming."

Is there some reason in particular that you had to hassle the girl working at Starbucks for something she has no control over? GROW UP, what you wanted on the Starbucks menu was cafe con leche. That poor girl was having a hard enough day dealing with caffeine freaks and you have to give her attitude about company policy. You are a jerk.

She was right in being rude, since you had to point out that you live in the U.S. which is obviously quite clear since you didn't fly from England to get an ice coffee. She was obviously trying to make sure that she had your order right since you just had to refuse to call it what Starbucks calls it. You picked the fight, and pissed someone off (and yourself) for no good reason.
Also, if you were ordering from a french person (or whatever language cafe con leche is), who would call it a cafe con leche, can that person feel insulted by your remarks? I think you picked that fight, so yes you are wrong for feeling insulted.

You were just being petty and showed that you were a Philistine... uh... do you know what being a Philistine is? It's nothing more or less than a person regarded as smugly narrow and conventinoal in views and tastes, lacking in and indifferent to cultral and aestheitic values.
I'm sure that you didn't even pay attention to what the cashier said. Cafe con leche is coffee with milk. If you wanted an ice coffee, you might have asked for "cafe con hielo" (ee-EH-low, the "h" is silent) or cafe helado (which really means "chilled coffee") (helado is pronounced, "eh-LAH-doe").
Would you call the chief person in a restaurant's kitchen a Chef... or a cook? (Chef MEANS cook but it is a title of respect for someone with a little more knowledge than frying eggs).
You just wanted to be prove that you were an a s s and you succeeded. No one is asking you to be bi-lingual or bi-sexual for that matter but you showed your ignorance, and YES, you are 100% wrong if YOU felt insulted... you went into THEIR establishment, even if it is in the USA... YOU are the one who should respect when you enter someone's place of business or home so that others can respect you.
So, do you also go to an Italian restaurant and tell them to call their dishes in English, too? I think you enjoy showing off your ignorance and your bigotry with you asinine attitude. It is not a matter of being in America or speaking English as a matter of pride... or even a cultural matter. You're just plain rude; I bet you won't come off like that if the person behind the counter was a man, as tall as you or taller...? You said that to a woman behind a counter, not standing in front of you! YOU are a cowardly bully, that's all. So, don't hide behind the b/s pretense that in America we speak English... we ALL do but we also respect others and afford them the right to keep their cultures alive, just as YOU and your family, relatives and friends are also afforded the same right, liberty and freedom.
Let's see... you showed your rudeness and ignorance, you did not get the coffee you wanted and you succeeded in... what? NOTHING! You wasted your time just as your wasting your time complaining and b i t c h i n g and whining here. Lump it and take it home with you and ask your parents to teach you manners.

Well if you want an ices coffee with milk....make it at home. if you go to starbucks you use the name they have on the menu. just like you wouldnt go to wendys and ask for a big mac. Is this seriously something that hurts you to say. "Cafe con leche" are you even going to remember that day 10 years from now??? probably not, so stop making such a big deal out of it.

Starbucks ordering always reminds me of the comedian who said "the bigger the order, the bigger the as.hole" So, if the order is for a double-shot of cappucchino with a touch of this and a tad of that, swirled with a sprinkling of goodwill and steamed to perfection in pretentiousness, than the order belongs to one huge jerk. Don't feel bad. Boycott Starbucks. It's not our kind of place....
