I am curious of this question as well, I would say that it is up to the artist. His overhead has to pay taxes for it to be a legal business, following the requirements of a business license and subjecting to his employ identification number. Even though this does not relate to tattoos, my ex was a bartender making excellent money. She only claimed 10% of what she made a night and pocketed more money than you would believe, this being of her tips. When come to file for taxes she had her mother file her under her tax bracket and was included as a dependent of hers and not herself. That's a good question, I never got that far with my tattooing profession cause of the town I was in, the health department was so unjustible they would find any exuse to close a parlor down so I done it out of the house, with no licensing, just contracts. I will have to e-mail a friend and ask.

I'd assume they do. It's a service they provide that uses materials, no different from getting an oil change; and they have to pay taxes on their business.
