etc. means etcetera.
this is usually used in a list of items where you want to include a lot of items and u cant.
for example,
my favourite past-times are surfing the net, listening to music, reading science fiction books, gardening, downloading, etc.

etc is short for etcetera, which means "and others". People use it when they have to tell you a lot of things they have to memorize. If they cant remember the entire list, they will say two or three of them and just say etcetera etcetera.
