Ok here's the deal. I married a Romanian in 2002, met over the internet, I went there, we married... After that we never hardly have had contact with each other and I have now moved on with my life and am in love with another. I have attempted contact on several occasions without success. What do I do? Im not sure if that marriage would be considered annulled or what. I would like to marry again but am unsure where I stand legally. Is there anyone out there that knows? Please help.

We were married in Romania. He still resides in Romania and I live in the US. He has never lived in the US.

You are still legally married and you must get into contact with her and get it annulled.

Where did you get married? In Romania or USA? Either way he married you to gain US Citizenship, it is an age old ploy, the laws are different in each country but as far as marriage is concerned, for a US citizen if you married someone on the Moon you would be considered married ..period. You have to get the marriage annulled in the USA, you will have to go to court, file for annulment and then post the notice of pending annulment in the local newspaper in your town and the local newspaper in Europe or where he lives, so that it can be said you made every effort to inform him, if he doesn't reply in the allotted period the judge will annul the marriage and inform the Romanian consul in the USA either way since he has stayed married to you for over 3 years he has become a US Citizen, if you had done this before the 3 year period he would have been deported.

Contact the Romanian consulate. Our son married a Dutch woman and lives in Holland. Our consulate has been a great help to him with his marriage. I'm sure they would be a great help in a divorce.
