how do you adjust the resistanceof a potentiometer how do check its value ? by usinhg the multimetre?

A potentiometer has 3 terminals. Typically measuring the outside terminals with the multimeter in the ohms setting will measure the maximum value of the potentiometer.

If one of the leads is referenced to the wiper terminal (usually center terminal) while the other lead is left in place, the value measured will be thesetting of the wiper with reference to that outside terminal. If the lead on that outside terminal is moved to the other outside terminal while other the lead remains on the center (wiper) terminal the resistance measurment will be with reference to that terminal. The two measurements together will be the sum of the value of the potentiometer.

As the potentiometer is adjusted one side increases as the other side decreases. The relationship is inversely proportional.
