babe ... you dont have to buy anything from itunes if u dont want to ... for the songs from ur cd collection u first save the songs on ur computer ... then open iTunes ... go to File > Add to Library > select the songs that u want ... these songs will appear on ur Library .. Library option is on the left panel ... from there u can drag the songs to ur device which is also shown on the left panel ...

You just need to "rip" your CDs onto your computer...then you can import the music into iTunes Library and sync them onto your iPod.

well if you have i-tunes, you would just slip the CD you want in the CD thingy, and then open up i-tunes and the CD will come up, then you just name the songs (optional) and then highlight the songs (by pressing 'shift' and the up/down arrowns) and then drag them into the library.
After that take out the CD and connect your
I-pod and just highlight the songs you want from the library drag them into your I-pod!
and there you go. but if you dont have I-tunes, well...i dunno lol

import the cds into your ipod playlist through your cd drive... then synchronize the ipod with your playlist by connecting through the usb or firewire port

yeah just download the songs into your iTunes by clicking "file" and "update iPod" (at least this is how I do it so I'm unsure if this will work for you)
